All of the condos at the bottom of the photo sit on grayton beach's pretty white sand beach. As you can see from the photo, many of the vacation houses and condos we would classify as "Near the beach" are in fact within easy walking distance from the beach. This is probably the most laid back beach in the destin area, and is just the place to lie on the beach and let your cares melt away.
Grayton Beach is about 14 miles from destin, and is a typical florida beach. The real florida, without all of the chrome and glass, and red tile roofs. This beach has houses that look like beach houses. You can find a destin beach house in the old florida style here. There are lots of neat things to see and do, cool shops, rustic restaurants, and natural wonders abound.
There has been a bit of commercial development recently, but it is well removed from the beach, back on county road C30A. So this beach remains unspoiled, but shopping and restaurants are nearby when you need them. The commercial activity does not intrude into the beach atmosphere,
Grayton beach state park is a couple of miles or so away, and you can find florida beachfront vacation homes for rent there in a really rustic setting. Sorry, we don't have the details about prices and reservations. You'll have to contact the state park folks for that information. The park has one of the pretty coastal dune lakes as well as a nice beach.
